Like any website component, search engine optimization (SEO) is growing and changing with each passing day. With new strategies, tools, and programs emerging in digital markets, many web design platforms have taken to partnering with dedicated SEO-focused and marketing software to keep up with industry trends and developments, as well as to ensure they maintain accessibility for all their users. This week, Wix.com partnered with SEO toolset provider Semrush to improve keyword research functionality and integrate new web analytics into the Wix digital ecosystem (above image courtesy of PR Newswire.com). Here is our breakdown of the new partnership and how Semrush will allow Wix to maintain their edge as a website design platform.
What is Semrush?
Semrush is an online visibility management and content marketing platform that has grown from a small start-up back in 2008 to a large international company with over 10 million users in 143 countries (image courtesy of Semrush.com). Semrush is a leading provider of SEO-related data and analytics, which enables website designers and developers to better understand how to improve digital presences against their competitors. Semrush has upheld one mission since starting their company almost 15 years ago: to make online competition fair and transparent, with equal opportunities for everyone.
Today, the Semrush platform has a collection of over 50 available tools to assist with all the elements of managing your company’s online presence, including keyword research, SEO, competitor analysis, content marketing, rank tracking, social media management, link building, market analysis, and paid advertising and monetization. Their Keyword Magic tool database in particular now exceeds 22.3 billion keywords, with up to 20 million ideas for a single keyword query. Canada and the United States alone account for a combined 4 billion of those keywords, making Semrush’s integration with Wix all the more exciting.
How will Semrush integrate with Wix?
Wix’s partnership with Semrush focuses on keyword research data and better integration of data into the initial SEO Setup Checklist (formerly known as the SEO Wiz) within the Wix platform dashboard. Access to keyword research data through Semrush now enables Wix users to refine core topics (or keywords), which in turn boosts search engine results page (SERP) rankings, more effectively targets online traffic, and, eventually, increases company revenue. The integration of Semrush with the Wix SEO Setup Checklist works through a simple process of three steps:
Refine core keywords using the Semrush integration
Select core keywords
Implement core keywords as laid out in the SEO Setup Checklist
Wix site owners currently have limited, free access to the Semrush dataset, with more information about package pricing to come at a later date. To begin using Semrush integration data on Wix, site owners first need to establish a connection between their Wix account and Semrush (pictured right; courtesy of Wix.com). Once that connection is complete, you can begin searching the Semrush database for applicable keywords for their industry. At the moment, two conditions have been put in place for first-time users of Semrush on Wix: a maximum of five keywords can be added to the SEO checklist on the platform, and the free version of Semrush permits up to 10 keyword searches in a 24-hour period. For any site owners already paying for a Semrush plan outside of Wix, the number of keyword searches are dictated by the features of their personal subscription.
How can you use Semrush for better keyword research?
Semrush’s data works according to geolocation, which means users have access to focus keyword data and topics that are specific to a particular country. This first step of using Semrush is thus already helpful for site owners wishing to hyperfocus their SEO strategy based on location (pictured right; courtesy of Wix.com). Once a country is selected, the platform invites users to begin searching for keywords with their SEO Checklist Setup, as well as other keywords they discover during the process. With every search on the platform, Semrush returns a detailed selection of data that assists Wix users in choosing more effective focus keywords:
Volume: an estimate of how often the keyword is searched for on Google every month
Trend: the changes in monthly search volume over time
Difficulty to rank: an estimate of how hard it would be to rank for the keyword in the competitive landscape of Google SERP
Search intent: the intent associated with why a consumer would search for the given keyword (E.g. informational, navigational, commercial, and transactional queries)
All of the above data returned by Semrush integration is critical for focusing keyword research and working towards better online audience targeting (pictured right; courtesy of Wix.com). Semrush will push Wix site owners to dig even deeper into keywords and find the right focus topics, a practice which is already becoming a key component of website management. Essentially, SEO and keyword research needs to respond to the increasingly specialized and focused manner of conducting search queries. Specificity has become the next step of SEO, and Semrush’s integration with Wix clearly demonstrates its importance.
What does the future look like for Wix?
While Wix has already proven itself to be a leading platform for streamlined and effective web design and development, the addition of Semrush further solidifies its credibility and commitment to providing users with the latest tools and features to build state-of-the-art websites. Wix’s partnership with Semrush is indicative of their mission to making SEO improvements for both novice and advanced site owners. Other platforms like WordPress previously outshone Wix for long-term SEO strategy, but Semrush integration has already put Wix in a spot to once again overtake their competitors.
